From a professional and personal perspective, I have always been a huge fan of salicylic acid. This cleanser is a good alternative to my regular cleanser when I don't have time to exfoliate. I have dry skin, so I was worried that it would dry it out, but I was pleasantly pleased that it just gave my skin a beautiful healthy shine after I used it. I rotate this cleanser with my regular cleanser 2 to 3 times a week. The scent is a cleanser type, with a pump that can control the amount each time. I like to have cleansers in this form. I’m so thrilled when I first heard about panthenol because it has a property to attract and retain moisture on any skin type, characteristically turns into vitamin B5 when absorbed into skin. One of the things that can be an issue for acnetic skin conditions, is the fact that heavier moisturizers can trap heat which can cause inflammation in the skin which is clearly counterproductive. At the same time even if a person has issues with acne and breakouts, the last thing we want to do is strip the skin of its oil because that will cause the skin to produce more oil which is counterproductive as well. I normally do not have skin that breaks out. However that's not to say that I don't have incidents where I will get an occasionally eruption or two. It's great to have items in my toolbox to address those times where I may get an occasional blemish. Niacinamide which is present in this serum, is a workhorse ingredient that addresses inflammation, and helps to build the skin back to it's proper resiliency. What I appreciate about this serum is how easily it spreads across the skin and penetrates relatively quickly. I was having an issue on my chin and after using the serum directly on that spot overnight, the redness and irritation decreased dramatically. I didn't feel that this serum was particularly hydrating, however at the same time I felt that it was fantastic for dressing inflammation and congestion in certain areas. As a licensed esthetician, I would feel quite comfortable recommending this serum to a variety of clients who may suffer from acne or occasional breakouts. I think that this line in general works best within a system, and I think that by using the cleanser, toner, serum and moisturizer will yield the best results. Toners are often overlooked in skincare and although you hear a lot of professionals say that toners are an unnecessary step ,I disagree. A decent toner can elevate a good skincare routine to one that is spectacular. There's hesitancy with some of us who immediately think that toners will be dryIng to the skin because of many toners of the past containing high amounts of alcohol. That is definitely not the case with this toner. It's brilliant in the idea that it gently exfoliates the skin with a variety of acids (BHA, AHA) but it's also removes residue from cleansing, gets the pH back in check and peeps the skin for additional products. My skin never felt dry after using. I would however remind everyone to shake the toner before using and use cautiously (meaning ever other day) if you have sensitized skin. As a licensed Esthetician, I would also recommend this as a post waxing product to prevent ingrown hairs because of the acids that are present.

Unfortunately I think that salicylic acid sometimes gets a bad rap because of poor formulation and the fact that it can be dryIng to certain skin types. At the same time, because salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid that attaches itself to oil in the skin, it can actually be less irritating to the skin than an alpha hydroxy acid such as glycolic or malic acid as examples. Salicylic acid is fantastic for people who have some acnetic conditions, but it shouldn't necessarily be discounted for normal to somewhat oily skin types. One of the issues that I've had with some products that contain salicylic acid, is the fact that they may dry the skin out. This cleanser in my opinion is not one of those products. Lately, in the Midwest, we've been experiencing very cold weather and with that come dryness. Needless to say I am not interested in using any products that may dry my skin. I typically alternate between cleansers, and although a creamier cleanser is more ideal for my skin type particularly at this time of year, I've always been preferred cleansers that are more gel based because they feel more cleansing. The other factor that I really enjoyed about this cleanser is the small amount that you need to get the job done. That alone speaks to its efficacy and fantastic formulation. I noticed while using this cleanser that there was less congestion and my nose and cheek area. I like to position his cleanser and morning or at night when I am double cleansing. I think this is cleanser is also at a reasonable price point, and I would feel comfortable recommending this to a variety of clients in my professional practice as an esthetician. Lastly, this is definitely a cleanser that I will keep in my toolbox as far as my home care routine is concerned.
